Biography

Bob "Shrinkingman" Nelson was born on 2 Feb 1962 and has lived in the Boston, MA (USA) area his entire life. As a young child he noticed books, TV shows, movies, and advertisements that featured giant or tiny people and found that he enjoyed them. A pivotal day for him was in 1976 when, at the age of 14, he first saw the film The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) on TV. He was delighted by the idea of shrinking and by the film's special effects.

As time went on he kept on the lookout for other examples of the genre. Briefly in 1995 he had a small-press publication, Giants and Little People in Fact and Fiction, and was interviewed about it by a writer for a newspaper in London, England. As he got into the internet beginning in 1997, he soon found himself creating the site that could become http://www.shrinkingman.com

Nelson found that there were many other people who shared this interest. His site was among the first on the Net to focus on "clean" pictures, stories, and video clips. Other sites focused on things ranging from macrofurries (giant anthropomorphic animals) to Giantess or Shrinking Woman; straight-or-gay related material; sites about real life little people or giants, child or teenaged giants, and so on.

Nelson adopted the nickname Shrinkingman from the Richard Matheson novel and 1957 film version.

Some of Nelson's favorite giant-tiny situations are shrunken or tiny people encountering danger when encountering huge objects or people in a house; situations where adults are smaller than children and situations where normally small animals seem huge to a person who has shrunk.
